HOME We want your input and help
We want your input! Let us know how we can serve you and the community. We are a 100% volunteer organization and encourage participation in our committees and board.
Mini-Grant information and applications are now available for 2010-2011.
BOC Purposes
The Bethel Outing Club's purposes are: 1) to promote Nordic skiing as sport and recreation in the greater Bethel and western Maine area, with particular emphasis on youth development Nordic ski programs, and 2) to support recreational activities and family-oriented outings in the out of doors. News
Our members participate in events all over New England and the U.S. We'll try to keep you posted.
Events & Activities
We try to spread the word through the BOC Calendar
at Google. You can also subscribe to our listserv at Google Groups , which sends announcements from members to your email (or just email the webmaster to be added if that's easier). Inclusion of an event does not imply sponsorship or endorsement by BOC.

YOUTH PROGRAMS Nordic skiing is fun for the whole family! We encourage parents to come and participate. For those kids and parents who do not have skis, we can make arrangements for borrowing equipment.
Who will teach my child?
Coaches and volunteers will teach your child how to cross-country ski or teach new techniques on how to become a better, faster skier. Practices will be fun-filled and will meet your child’s skill level.
How can I join and how much will it cost?
Your child can join the Bill Koch League by becoming a Bethel Outing Club (BOC) member for $15.00 for a family annually. After paying the BOC membership fee, all skiing (during the organized practices) is free. Alternatively, daily ski passes can be purchased and participation is free.
Questions? Contact Ian Blair: 207-824-0424.
First practice will be Sunday January 2nd at 2:00PM at the Bethel Inn. If you provide Ian with your email address, details on upcoming Sunday practices will normally be sent on a weekly basis.
Sign your child up for BOC's Bill Koch Youth Ski League.

Crescent Park School Ski Program
In 2011, the program was for 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th graders and run by Marie Keene (4th & 5th), Suzanne Newsom & Tracyn Thayer (2nd & 3rd) and parent volunteers. The program is free and equipment is provided for children and adult volunteers. The cost for the program is underwritten by BOC, the school district, and the Town of Bethel Recreation Committee.
Andover & Woodstock Elementary Ski Programs
These schools have long traditions of cross-country skiing and have active programs. BOC has supported both.
Middle School and High School Programs
BOC supports the programs and skiers at Telstar Middle School, Telstar High School, and Gould Academy. The club also works to share expertise and resources among the programs, and create opportunities for participants and coaches in these programs to learn from each other.
Annual Kids Triathlon
BOC runs the annual kids triathlon the day before the Maine State Triathlon. The highly successful event is untimed and for children ages 8-14. It consists of a 200 yd. swim, 3 mile cycle, 1 mile run. Information is available from the Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce.
BOC FALL SKI SALE Guidelines for Selling Equipment
Please do not bring obsolete equipment. Ski shops will not work on alpine bindings that are not current by industry standards; also there is no demand for alpine skis that are not “shape” skis.
Buyers are looking for bargains, so you may wish to price your items accordingly. NEW SINCE 2009: Prices on all personal equipment (e.g., other than equipment brought in by our ski shops) will be reduced by 50% on Saturday. If your item does not sell on Friday night and you do not wish to have it offered for sale at half price, you must claim it at the close of the sale on Friday night at 9:00 p.m.
Unsold equipment and checks for sold items must be claimed by presenting each unsold item’s claim ticket between noon and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday after the close of the sale. ITEMS NOT PICKED UP BY 3:00 p.m. SATURDAY WILL BE CONSIDERED DONATIONS TO THE BETHEL OUTING CLUB and/or WILL BE DONATED TO A CHARITY OR OTHERWISE DISPOSED OF.
How to Get Items in the Sale
Each item must have a signed & completed ski sale tag. Tags purchased and fully completed in advance are free for up to four items & 25 cents each after the 4th item. They are available at the Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce (824-2282, located at Bethel Station & on the web at www.bethelmaine.com) and True North Adventure Ware (824-2201) during business hours. This offer ends Friday at 3:00 p.m. on Friday October 28th.
Equipment may also be tagged at the ski sale beginning on Friday after 3:00 p.m. on Friday October 28th, but subject to a .50/item tag fee for items that aren’t tagged in advance.
